This lemon mousse is a lovely, easy dessert which you can make in no time at all. It's a great recipe for serving if you want something quick, or perhaps you're planning a party, then portion control is easier as you can serve these mini lemon desserts in glasses alongside some other party food.
The photos you see below are from an afternoon tea party and the lemon mousse glasses went down very well! Everyone enjoyed them, and of course, by the end of the party, there was no food left, so it was a success!
We love how versatile this recipe is, and you can change the flavors, use it as a topping on a trifle, serve a blob of this mousse with a slice of cake, and so on. The possibilities are endless, and we've given you some variations at the end of the recipe so you can experiment and make a variety.
This was inspired by our strawberry mousse recipe on our sister site, Lovefoodies and pairs well with this amazing Lemon Yogurt Cake, if you just wanted a simple side to have with a slice of cake.
Ingredients
15 oz or 300 ml heavy or double fresh cream
7 oz or 200g lemon curd
zest 1 lemon
You can buy Lemon curd in the baking section or preserves section of the grocery store. It's also incredibly easy to make your own lemon curd if you prefer. For our recipe, the quantity in the lemon curd recipe will be fine for using for this lemon mousse. (It gives around 9 oz / 250g of lemon curd) so you will have a few tablespoons leftover which you can spread on some hot buttered toast for breakfast!
Instructions
- Take a large bowl and add all the ingredients together, holding back a pinch of lemon zest.
Using the whisk on your mixer attachment, or a hand whisk, whisk the mixture until it is firm and stays on the whisk.

Drizzle over the remaining lemon curd and take a knife and swirl it through the whipped cream mixture.

Transfer to 6 small glasses then sprinkle the remaining lemon zest. You can also decorate the tops with some cookie crumbs for added texture. Use our Lemon Thins Cookie recipe, they will work so well with this mousse!

Cover the tops of each glass with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Hint: You can make this a day before so long as you keep refrigerated. This won't freeze so you will need to make it fresh.
Variation Flavors
- Orange - instead of lemon curd, you can use orange curd and the zest of an orange.
- Chocolate - instead of lemon curd, add the same amount of Nutella or chocolate spread, melted chocolate, and chocolate chips. You can use white, dark, or milk chocolate or even make a variety!
- Decorations - Feel free to drizzle chocolate, add sprinkles or decorate with a small mint leaf, chopped nuts or anything you like. The sky's the limit so get creative!
How to Serve lemon mousse
This is quite a rich dessert so you only need a small glass per person. You can serve this for an afternoon tea party alongside some other treats and sandwiches which we'll list below for you:

Equipment
You can use a hand whisk or an electric mixer with a whisk attachment to make this mousse. It's not hard and doesn't take long even if you whisk by hand.
Storage
These lemon mousse cups will keep fluffy and at their best for 2 days maximum in the fridge. We don't recommend keeping them longer as they won't stay fluffy and the cream will start to break down.
These will not freeze well so we suggest you make these fresh for serving the same day or the next day.
Top tip
Make sure you stop whisking as soon as you see the cream become stiff. If you continue whisking, the cream will split and become butter!
