We thought it would be a good idea to add a quick tutorial for you to show you how to line a baking pan.
I know that most recipes just say in the instructions 'grease and line a pan' as one of the first steps, and if you have no idea how to do that, it means you end up having to go look for how to do that before you can even start on the recipe you want to try!
So we've got some easy steps and photos to show you how to line a pan.
This method will work for square pans, loaf pans, sheet pans etc. Anything that has straight sides.
Once you've lined a pan a few times, it will take you a matter of seconds!
It really is a quick task and one that is necessary if you want your delicious cake to come out in one piece!
You can use pan release, however, using parchment will protect a cake, particularly if it is delicate, by giving it an extra layer of protection against the heat of the oven (this is often the reason why you double line when making fruit cakes), and if you want to lift out whatever you have baked, for example, brownies or bars, just taking hold of the parchment paper at the sides is enough to gently lift the whole bake out without any fear it will all break up.

What You Will Need
Greaseproof / Parchment Paper
Knob of butter or spray Oil
Sharp Scissors

Instructions
1. Grease the baking tin then lay it on top of some parchment / greaseproof paper, making sure the paper is large enough to cover up four sides of the tin.
The easiest way to do this is to hold the parchment up the sides and see if it reaches the top of the tin.
Then, using some scissors, cut the paper at each of the four corners at a diagonal, cutting toward the corner sides of the tin, as seen in the photo.
Cut right up to the tin on each corner.
Step 2. Carefully place the greaseproof / parchment paper inside the tin, and smooth the paper out on the base and then up the sides.
Where you have made the cuts, they will overlap in to each corner of the tin as in the photo. Trim those excess bits of paper off
Step 3. Cut off all the excess paper around the top
And there you have a lined cake pan. This same guide works for loaf pans too.
